Hastelloy C276, identified by UNS N10276 and Werkstoff No. 2.4819, is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy developed for exceptional resistance to a broad range of aggressive chemicals.
With approximately 57% nickel, 16% chromium and 16% molybdenum, C276 provides excellent resistance to both oxidising and reducing media, localized corrosion, chloride-induced pitting and crevice attack, and stress-corrosion cracking. It is widely used in chemical processing, pollution control, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, power-generation and sour-service applications. Welded C276 pipe is produced from alloy strip or plate and longitudinally welded.
Primary specification: ASTM B619 / ASME SB619.
C276 has good weldability using processes such as GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG and SMAW, with appropriate procedures and compatible filler metals. Haynes identifies ERNiCrMo-4 as the matching bare welding wire classification and ENiCrMo-4 for coated electrodes.
KEY PROPERTIES OF HASTELLOY C276 PIPE SIZES
- Excellent Corrosion Resistance : C276 provides broad resistance to aggressive chemical environments, including both oxidising and reducing acids.
- Excellent Pitting & Crevice Corrosion Resistance : Its high chromium and molybdenum content provides strong resistance to localized corrosion, particularly in chloride-containing environments.
- Stress-Corrosion Cracking Resistance : C276 offers excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress-corrosion cracking and is also resistant to sulfide stress cracking in sour environments.
- Resistance to Hydrochloric Acid : C276 is particularly well suited to hydrochloric-acid environments. Manufacturer data demonstrates its corrosion resistance across a range of hydrochloric and sulfuric acid conditions.
- Low Carbon & Silicon : The very low carbon and silicon contents were an important part of C276’s development for improved weldability and resistance to corrosion problems associated with welding.
